Chavannes -sur -Moudon is a municipality in the district Broye Vully the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Chavannes -sur -Moudon is located at 680 m above sea level. M., 20.5 km southwest of the district town Payerne ( straight line ). The small scattered village extends to a saddle east of the center Broyetals, in the eastern canton of Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​5.2 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molassehügellandes between the Broyetal and the upper reaches of the Glane. With 214 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Chavannes -sur -Moudon is one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 96.5 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 3.1 % and 0.5 % speak Albanian (as of 2000). The population of Chavannes -sur -Moudon amounted in 1850 to 342 residents in 1900 to 335 inhabitants. History

The earliest evidence of the land by the people in the municipal area is a hill grave of the Hallstatt period. The first documentary mention of the place, but was only in 1453 under the name Chavanes. The place name derives from the vulgar Latin capanna (cottage, small courtyard ).

In the 15th century Chavannes -sur -Moudon belonged to Kastlanei Rue. The village was located successively in the possession of the Lords of Moudon, of Illens, Villardin and Prez. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536 came Chavannes -sur -Moudon under the administration of the bailiwick Moudon. Attractions

In the Middle Ages a chapel in Chavannes -sur -Moudon is mentioned. The present building was last extensively restored in 1942. In the center some characteristic farmhouses from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved.
