Cheboksary

Cheboksary (Russian Чебоксары, Chuvash Шупашкар / Şupaşkar ) is the capital of the Russian Federation, Republic of Chuvashia, as well as part of the Volga Federal District.

It is attested as a settlement since the 15th century and has 453 721 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

Cheboksary is located in the eastern part of the Russian Plain 668 km away from Moscow, on the right bank of the Volga between the tributaries of Sura and Sviyaga. It has borders with the Republics of Mari El, Mordovia, Tatarstan, the areas Nizhny Novgorod and Ulyanovsk.

Climate

Economy

Main industries are machine building and metal processing, chemical, light industry, food industry, forestry and wood processing, construction industry. In the immediate vicinity, the Tscheboksarsker reservoir with an area of 2274 km ² and a hydroelectric power plant with a capacity of 1,404 megawatts. The agriculture consists mainly of dairy and beef cattle breeding and poultry farming. In construction are grain and hops. The city is an industrial center and a university, colleges and theater cultural center of the republic.

Traffic

Cheboksary is directly connected to the two Russian M7 highways and A119. In addition, the train " Чувашия " runs regularly from Kazan station in Moscow to Cheboksary. Museums
