The Georgetown Airport, English Cheddi Jagan International Airport ( CJIA ), is the only international airport of the South American country of Guyana. It is located about 41 km south of the capital Georgetown, Demerara- Mahaica in the region.
The airport was first called Atkinson Aerodrome and was renamed Timehri International Airport in 1969, in 1997 the airport was in turn named after the former President of Guyana, Cheddi Jagan, named.

Incidents
In the early morning of 30 July 2011 Boeing 737-800 overshot on the flight 523 from New York to Georgetown, Guyana with 163 people aboard while landing in Georgetown the runway. The machine was broken into two parts, with all the passengers survived and there were only a few casualties.
