Chemical toilet

The chemical toilet is a toilet, in which chemical substances for decay reduction ( odors) and disinfection of the excreta are used. The faeces are collected in a tank. There are versions with and without irrigation.

As a disinfectant, inter alia, formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, or quaternary ammonium compounds are used. Many of these agents are problematic because they can put the biological stage of wastewater treatment plants inoperable. There are also biodegradable agent.

Chemical toilets are particularly at locations used where no connection of toilets to the sewer system is possible. The most common forms are portable camping toilets, toilets board of transport and mobile toilet cabins, which are colloquially referred to as " portaloo " and especially at big events and used on construction sites.
