Chenillé-Changé

Chenille-Change is a commune of 148 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Maine -et -Loire in the Pays de la Loire Mayenne on the river, 28 km northwest of the city of Angers.

Resort on the river

The small town of Chenille-Change the River Mayenne consists of old buildings with large slate roofs, and has an interesting historical core. Next to the old church of Saint Pierre, the visitor finds an old mill and the Château des Rues. Otherwise the townscape as well as the local tourism of nearby is determined to the river. As in other places vacationers can also hire one of the narrow Penichettes and thus the Mayenne navigate upstream or downstream to the confluence with Loir and Sarthe.

Attractions

The church of Saint Pierre has its origins in the 11th century. It is not a particularly large hall church and still has its original single nave. 1788 the tower was placed, and the windows were inserted. The entablature was clad with panels and then painted this blanket as a starry sky. At the choir side of the building nor the two vestries were added.

The oldest part of the water mill dates from the 12th century. After the mill was destroyed by fire in 1900 partially, a crenellated square tower was built on the site of the ruins. The waterwheel, which drives the millstone of a complex transmission mechanism, has a diameter of 7 m. Today the mill is still in operation and open for visitors.

At the edge of the village you see something reset the fronts of the Château des Rues, historical possession of the noble family Rougé. The castle appeared in the year 1395 the first time in the history books. In the 15th century, the building was restored in 1768 and finally rebuilt. A century later the famous architect René Hodé received the commission for a further redesign of the then popular Gothic Revival style. At the same time the terrain surrounded by the famous landscape architect Comte de Choulot was designed as an English garden.
