Cheon Un-yeong

Cheon un -young or Cheon Woon -young (born 1971 in Seoul) is a South Korean writer.

Life

Cheon un -young was born in 1971 in Seoul. Her father was a factory manager. Since her family also lived at the factory site, this environment is one of its prägensten memories. She spent her childhood mostly alone, so she began very early to deal with literature in the form of fairy tales. Later she studied at the University of Communications Science and Literature. Her short story The needle appeared in the spring insert for literature and art in the Dong -a Ilbo, for which they received a prize in 2000.

The story The needle and other stories from this period arranged Cheon one as a representative of a new generation of feminist writers. The self-discovery of women in society is no longer the central issue.

Also the question of what remains obtained from the traditional image of the family, does not arise, because the family in their narrated world is already dismantled, and the survivors are women. The female characters such as in The needle have found their own ways, are hedonistic, strong and have a willingness to use force.

Outstanding is Cheons precision of observation, with which they defined the aesthetics of their narrated world. She is also known for works that are based on very extensive scrutiny. Her works tell stories of how they are rarely found in the world of Korean novels to date, and are reminiscent of a documentary. Exceptional main characters as a tattoo Stecherin or weird locales, like a slaughterhouse, are processed in the innocent animals for human consumption, leave the reader with a lasting impression.
