Chess Bundesliga

The Chess League is the top division in the German team chess. For men, it exists in its present form since 1980, before it was divided into four squadrons. The women's league started in 1991. The 1st Bundesliga in the men currently consists of 16 and with the ladies from 12 teams. The second- highest division is the 2nd Bundesliga. Here the gentlemen play in four parallel squadrons, each with ten teams, with the ladies, there are three groups of eight chess teams. Organizational form

The German Chess Federation (DSB ) has launched the Bundesliga to life and was initially responsible only for tournament use planning and management. According to the decision of the DSB - Congress 1973 in Trier and at the initiative of the DSB sporting director Helmut Nöttger the men's Chess League was founded in 1974, but then four tracks. At the end of the season, the four winners play a final tournament for the German team championship.

In 1980, the DSB established the single track first Bundesliga; the four winners from each group were eligible for this league. The games will be conducted on a total of seven weekends. Ladies

The women's league started in 1991, the top six teams from the big leagues of the former GDR were set.
