Chet Culver

Chester John "Chet " Culver ( born January 25, 1966 in Washington, DC ) is an American politician and former governor of the state of Iowa. He belongs to the Democratic Party.

Culver is the son of former U.S. Senator John Culver, who represented the state in Congress from 1975 to 1981. He attended Bethesda - Chevy Chase High School in Maryland. After graduating from Culver attended the College of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia.

From 1999 to 2007 he was Secretary of State of Iowa. He won the gubernatorial elections on 7 November 2006 against Republican Jim Nussle. After four years in office he resigned in November 2010 re-election, but with a vote share of only 43.3 percent, he defeated former Governor Terry Branstad E., Culver on 14 January 2011 replaced and thus returned after twelve years in the office.
