Chic Young

Murat Bernard Chic Young ( born January 9, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois, † 14 March 1973 in Saint Petersburg, Florida) was an American cartoonist and comic book artist. As the creator of the daily strips Blondie he became world famous.

Life and work

Murat Bernard Young, the younger brother of comic artist Lyman Young, grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, but returned to his hometown of Chicago back to study art. He first worked as a stenographer and published in 1920 with The Affairs of Jane for the Newspaper Enterprise Association his first comic strip. 1922 Young moved to New York and started there for the Bell Syndicate the comic strip Beautiful Bab, for which he received an offer from the King Features Syndicate and he broke off again after four weeks. For the King Features Syndicate, he drew from 1924 Dumb Dora. Since Dumb Dora Young signed next to his family name and his nickname "Chic", which he received in high school. Dumb Dora was held by Young to the year 1930 and then handed over to his assistant, Paul Fung, who continued the strip until the year 1935. On September 8, 1930 blondie and Young started as an author led the strip until his death continued, while he was replaced as a draftsman due to his failing eyesight 1950 by Jim Raymond. Blondie was reprinted in over 1500 newspapers worldwide. In addition to the newspaper prints were also done some German language comic publications.
