The Chicago Cubs are an American baseball team. They play in the Central Division of the National League. The Chicago Cubs come from Chicago, where they were founded in 1870. Their home games bears from the team at Wrigley Field.

The Cubs are members of the Central Division of Major League Baseball, which they last won in 2007 and 2008. They are one of two major league teams, based in Chicago, ( the others are the Chicago White Sox) and in addition to the Atlanta Braves one of the two remaining charter members of the National League.

In the first decades of the National League, the Cubs were one of the dominant teams in the league, in the period after the First World War, however, never reached its former strength. So the team was still not possible in 1907 and 1908 to repeat his World Series victories.

The Cubs are often referred to as "The North Siders " because their stadium Wrigley Field is in Chicago's northern district Lakeview. Other nickname of the team are " Cubbies ", " Boys in Blue " because the jersey main color is blue, as well as " Lovable Losers" because of the popularity despite the continuing lack of success in terms of winning the World Series.

In December 2007, the entrepreneur Sam Zell acquired through the purchase of the Tribune Company controlling interest in the Chicago Cubs. In 2009 he sold the franchise to the Ricketts family. The owner Joe Ricketts is the founder of TD Ameritrade.

The Cubs maintain special rivalries with the St. Louis Cardinals, the Milwaukee Brewers and the city rival Chicago White Sox.
