Children's Online Privacy Protection Act

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ( COPPA, German: "law to protect the privacy of children on the Internet " ) is a law on April 21, 2000 in the United States as a Federal Trade Commission ( FTC) Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ( COPPA ) came into force. Its object is to provide for the operators of websites rules on how to deal with personal information from children under the age of 13.

In Germany you are confronted primarily with the COPPA, if you want to register in a software -based American web forum. During registration, the question must be answered if one is under 13 years old. If you answer yes, the forums software will require a parental consent to perform the registration. Since COPPA guidelines in Germany, however, do not apply, registration is also permitted without consent.
