China RoHS

China RoHS is the commonly used term for an Environmental Protection Law of the People 's Republic of China, which has been in force since 1 March 2007. Similar to the EU directive RoHS toxic substances should be banned in electronic products. The substances concerned and limits are identical with the EU RoHS, however, no exceptions are allowed in the China RoHS.

Various details of implementation are not yet known; as China, the law exclusively in Mandarin Chinese available, there is also no official translation. What is clear is currently just that since 1 March 2007, the prohibition of substances must be used in all electrical and electronic products, which are intended to remain in China, declared. Prohibitions should be initially adopted in 2008. The declaration must be made in standard Chinese.

So far (January 2011), the Chinese authorities have not taken any further action, it should be by the end of 2010 a ban list, this has not yet been released.

For now, only one labeling of complete devices, such or assemblies or components necessary to reach the market. This is indicated with a green logo indicates that the product does not contain banned substances. Otherwise a red or orange logo shall be affixed with a one-or two -digit number that indicates how many years the product can be used as intended, before the risk that the prohibited substances contained leak and thereby pose a danger to the environment and health ( Environmentally friendly use period - EFUP ).

Since the determination of EFUP is quite spongy and nonuniform specification of various components manufacturers would lead to significant problems for equipment manufacturers, trade associations are currently trying to move all manufacturers into a unified specification of 50 years.

In contrast to the EU 's RoHS Directive, the China RoHS also requires from the product packaging comply with the limits.

Currently, little readily available information for China RoHS are available, especially on the Internet. Most organizations make the information accessible only to members because the information-gathering is with costs associated with the lack of official translation.
