Chinese jumping mouse

The Chinese Hüpfmaus ( Eozapus setchuanus ) is a rodent in the family gerbils and the only species of its genus. By the end of 20th century Western researchers were only about 12 copies known, the bellows are kept in various museums in Europe and North America.

Description

The animal reaches a head-body length of 8 to 10 cm and a tail length of 10 to 15 cm. Note the 2.5 to 3.3 cm long hind feet. The coat on top of a dirty orange and belly whitish color. Accordingly, the tail is dark upper side and lower side bright It is fitted at the end with a white tassel.

This Hüpfmaus occurs in the Chinese provinces of Qinghai, Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Sichuan and Yunnan. It inhabits mountains that are 3,000 to 4,000 meters high and stays in steppes, scrublands and cold temperate forests.

Otherwise, almost nothing is known about the lifestyle.

The IUCN sees no significant obstacles for the Chinese Hüpfmaus and lists them as not threatened (Least Concern ).
