Chinese stingray

Dasyatis sinensis is a Stechrochenart and lives in the northwestern Pacific Ocean off the coasts of China and Korea.

Features

Dasyatis sinensis reaches a maximum total length of 82 cm up to 40 cm disc width. It has a diamond-shaped pectoral fin disk, which is about as wide as long. The tail is whip-like, slightly less than twice as long as the disc and usually carries a sting. The top is gray, lighter on the fins edges; the underside is gray-white.

Way of life

Little is known about the lifestyle of the skate. He is probably ovoviviparous, like most stingrays. He is often caught as by-catch in trawls and reused, especially in China.
