The Dark bluebell ( Chionodoxa sardensis ) is a plant of the genus bluebells ( Chionodoxa ) in the family of asparagus plants ( Asparagaceae ).

Features

The Dark bluebell is a perennial herbaceous plant, the plant height 5-15 ( rarely to 40 ) reaches centimeters. This Geophyt forms onions as outlasting. The 4 to 12 flowers are bright gentian blue, its center is not white and they are weak nod. The tepals measure 8-10 (rarely to 17) × 2 to 4 millimeters and are fused together at 30 to 40 % of its length. The pens are 2 to 3 millimeters long.

The flowering period is in April, partly it begins as early as March.

Occurrence

The Dark bluebell comes in western Turkey in Boz - Dagh and Mahmout Dagh near Izmir in pine forests on moist north-facing slopes at altitudes of about 550 meters in front. In Germany it is considered in- naturalization neophyte.

Use

The Dark bluebell is scattered used as an ornamental plant in shrubbery, natural gardens and parks. The species is approximately since 1887 in culture.
