Chisimba Falls

The Chishimba Falls of the river Luombe lie in Zambia in the Northern Province about 30 km west of the town of Kasama to 1,318 m altitude. The Luombe is about 160 km long and 140 km falls behind its source through a series of limestone rocks. Over a distance of over 2 km be water plunges 70 meters deep.

The Chishimba cases are not easy to reach and rarely visited. The area is among the Babemba as a holy place and in the radius of 10 km is not a single village. The first cataract is called Chipondo and divides into two rapids around a small island. Then the actual cases, of which the first 20 m of the Mutumuna follow, followed by 500 m calm river, behind which Kapala, a waterfall of 10 m height is. Then follow 500 meters with many rapids, behind which follows the third waterfall of Chichimba with 30 m and plunges into a narrow, rocky gorge. The spray of the cases ensures a dense rainforest on the banks.

In those cases there is a hydroelectric power plant, which uses the height of all cases.
