The Chitral Gol National Park is located in the Chitral valley in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, was established in 1984. The total area covers approximately 77.5 km ², making it one of the smaller national parks of the country.

The national park is known for its population of Astor markhor (Capra falconeri falconeri ). This subspecies has a less tightly twisted horns than other forms of this species. Your stock in the National Park was in 1970 only a little over 100 animals, but has now grown to 650. There is also a small occurrence of the Ladakh urial. Of these wild sheep, only 28 animals were counted in the park in 1992. Snow leopards do not seem to live permanently in the park, but occur as irregular visitors. Wolves avoid the protected area as a result of grazing restrictions few pets are to be found as potential prey in the park.
