Chlordimeform is a chemical compound from the group of amidines and organic chlorine compounds.
History
Chlordimeform was sold 1966-1976 and between 1978 and 1988 from Ciba -Geigy under the name Galecron as pesticides in cotton and various food crops. In 1978, Ciba- Geigy, the manufacture and sale of the product, after independent scientists had expressed the suspicion of a carcinogenic effect of the agent according to animal studies.
Production and representation
Chlordimeform industrially by condensation of a Vilsmeier reagent (obtained by the reaction of dimethylformamide with phosphorus oxychloride, thionyl chloride or cobalt ( II) chloride ), either with 4-chloro -o-toluidine or o-toluidine and subsequent chlorination of the resulting intermediate product produced.
Use
Chlordimeform and its hydrochloride are used as pesticides ( acaricide and insecticide). In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, no plant protection products containing this active substance is approved.
