Chokorgyel Monastery

The monastery Chökhorgyel ( Tib: chos ' khor rgyal ) is a monastery of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. It was in 1509 from the second Dalai Lama, Gendun Gyatsho ( 1476-1542 ), founded and located in the upper Metoktang Valley in the county Gyatsha ( Gyaca / Jiacha ) in the northeast of the district of Shannan in the south of Tibet Autonomous Region at an altitude of 4350 m. It lies at the confluence of three rivers, surrounded by four mountains, which is considered a happy place. It was expanded under the 5th Dalai Lama, in 1718 it was destroyed by the Mongol Dsungars. Within the walls are the remains of hundreds of stone buildings, including several temples.

Orakelsee Lhamo Lhatsho

The monastery is situated near the oracle lake Lhamo Lhatsho and is a place of rest and worship for all those who make the pilgrimage to this holy lake. This lake is considered the Tibetans as a holy place, which ( see main article soul child) also plays in the discovery of reincarnations of the Dalai Lamas a role. At the 14th Dalai Lama, the oracle is said to have supplied information on its birthplace in Taktser.
