Choliamb

The Choliambus (also: Hinkjambus, from Greek: cholos = lame iambic; Skazon also ) as meter is an ancient iambic verse with spondee in the sixth foot.

X - X - X - X - X --- The verse is rather discordant, to make the listener " suspicious ". The Hinkjambus (or Choliambus ) was invented by the Greek poet Hipponax for his satirical poems. The Choliambus was also used by Catullus and Martial.

The Choliambus is preferably suitable for verses that have to produce a comic effect.
