Chom Thong District, Bangkok

Chom Thong ( Thai: จอมทอง, tɕɔ̄ ː m t ʰ ɔ̄ ː ŋ ) is one of the 50 districts (Khet ) of Bangkok, capital of Thailand. Chom Thong is a southern city district and is located on the west side of the Chao Phraya River.

The district is famous for its tasty tangerines Bang Mot tangerine. Therefore, the sculpture of a giant tangerine located at the intersection of Rama II Road and Suk Sawat Road.

Geography

The limits of Chom Thong are determined by numerous small Khlongs whose names are unlikely to be known about the Khet addition. In the north of Khlong Rank Bua, Khlong Bangwa, Khlong Daamwong, Khlong Wat Khlong Wat Bangsue and Maiyaibui. In the East: Khlong Bang Sakae, Thanon Khlong Bang Suksawat and Phakaeo. In the south of Khlong Yaichamphii, Khlong Lamrang, and Khlong Thaluuk. In the West, Khlong Bua, Khlong Sanam Chai, Khlong Wat Khlong Tha Nam Singh.

The neighboring districts are from clockwise from the north: Phasi Charoen, Thonburi, Rat Burana, Thung Khru, Bang Khun Thian and Bang Bon.

History

Chom Thong was initially part of the district of Bang Khun Thian. On October 14, 1997 until the announcement of the establishment of a separate district on 9 November 1989 on the occasion of major administrative reform of Bangkok parts of the subdistrict Bang Pakok of Rat Burana and parts of the subdistrict Bukkhalo Thonburi incorporated in Chom Thong.

  • Wat Ratcha Orasaram ( วัด ราช โอรสา ราม ) - quiet Khlong Sanam Chai Temple at ( Khlong Daan ), built in the Ayutthaya period, renovated by King Rama III .. interesting mix of Thai and Chinese style elements, such as with round doors in Phra Rabieng surrounding the viharn with large reclining Buddha.
  • Wat Nagnong Woraviharn ( วัด นางนอง วรวิหาร ) - built in the Ayutthaya perioda the eastern bank of Khlong Sanam Chai, newly restored by King Rama III .. Worth seeing is the main Buddha statue " in royal regalia " of ubosot, the Chinese-style is built.
