Chris Harmse

Chris Harmse (actually Christiaan Johannes Hendrik Harmse, born 31 May 1973) is a South African hammer thrower.

Between 1998 and 2008 he won the title in five of the six Athletics Championships Africa. Four times he threw this championship record, most recently in 2008 in Addis Ababa 77.72 m. In addition, he finished 2010 in Nairobi the second rank. The Pan-African Games Harmse won between 1999 and 2007 three times in a row - each with championship record he was able to increase to 76.73 m in 2007. Seven times he improved the African record, most recently at the current mark of 80.63 m. In addition, he was sixteen times in a row South African champion.

He had at the Commonwealth Games Other international successes: 1998 in Kuala Lumpur, and in 2006 he won bronze in Melbourne, 2010 in New Delhi gold. At the World Athletics Championships he launched in 1999 in Seville, 2005 in Helsinki, 2007 in Osaka and 2009 in Berlin, but different every time in the qualifier. At the Athletics World Cup 1998 when he was seventh, fourth in 2002 and 2006, seventh, again at the IAAF Continental Cup 2010 seventh. At the Olympics he never took part on religious grounds. Harmses faith forbids him to deny competitions on a Sunday, and the Olympic hammer throw final traditionally takes place on this day.
