Chris Lewis (tennis)

Chris Lewis ( born March 9, 1957 in Auckland ) is a former New Zealand tennis player.

In 1975, he was the No. 1 junior. In total he won three individual tournaments, reaching as high position on the world tennis rankings place 19 He also won in his career twelve tournaments in doubles.

By reaching the final of the Men's Single Page 1983 in Wimbledon Lewis was only the seventh unseeded and second by Tony Wilding from New Zealand player to have managed. In the final he defeated John McEnroe in straight sets.

Chris Lewis was suffering from fear of flying caused also by the fact that he sat in three machines that had to make an emergency landing. So he tried whenever possible to avoid air travel, which, due to the distributed around the globe tournaments and his distant homeland often not allowed to realize.
