Chris Wood (jazz musician)

Chris Wood ( born November 25, 1969 in Pasadena, California) is an American musician. He is the bass player / bassist of the U.S. jazz trio Medeski, Martin & Wood.

Life

Chris Wood studied in Boulder, Colorado, composition, jazz and bass. From 1989 he attended the " New England Conservatory of Music " in Boston, where he studied with Dave Holland, Geri Allen and Bob Moses. At a joint tour of Israel in 1990 makes Bob Moses, John Medeski and Wood acquainted. In 1991 he went to New York, where he plays in several free jazz and rock bands (including with Marc Ribot, Elliott Sharp, Ned Rothenberg, John Zorn or Sam Bennett in his band " chunk "). In the same year he founded together with John Medeski and Billy Martin, the jazz trio Medeski, Martin & Wood.

In addition to his regular band Wood also plays Marc Ribot's Radical Jewish Culture in band " Shrek" and for the Wood Brothers, a blues / folk project with his brother Oliver Wood and Karl Denson. This appeared in 2006 debut album Ways Not To Lose, produced by John Medeski, will be released by Blue Note Records.
