Christian Brevoort Zabriskie

Christian Brevoort Zabriskie (* October 16, 1864; † February 8, 1936 ) was an American businessman and vice president of the Pacific Coast Borax Company. Zabriskie Point in Death Valley National Park in California is named after him.

Zabriskie worked from 1885 to 1933 for the Pacific Coast Borax Company. First, it was part of his area of ​​responsibility to oversee several hundred Chinese workers who were employed in Death Valley in the unbearable heat with the Boraxabbau. Borax ( the "white gold " ) was the real treasure of the Death Valley. In the years 1883-1888 several hundred thousand tons of borax in Death Valley have been removed. The borax Dolly were in the difficult terrain of up to 20 mules - the famous " Twenty Mule Team " - drawn to more than 200 km from the railway station.

Zabriskie was finally vice president and general manager of the Pacific Coast Borax Company. In this role he was 36 years worked until his retirement in 1933.
