Christian Carstensen

Christian Carstensen ( born March 11, 1973 in Hamburg ) is a German politician ( SPD) and former member of parliament. In the federal election on September 22, 2013, he ran unsuccessfully as SPD direct candidate for the constituency Hamburg -Nord.

Life and career

Post-high school in 1989, Christian Carstensen trained as a banker at Dresdner Bank in Hamburg, which he finished in early 1992. Subsequently, he worked in the credit department of Dresdner Bank.

Early in his training on August 1, 1989, Christian Carstensen member of the Union of Retail, Banking and Insurance ( HBV, and today part of Verdi ). There he committed, inter alia, to as a member of the nationwide bargaining committee for the banking industry, as a member of the National Youth Board, as a delegate to the National Youth Conferences of HBV and the DGB as well as youth representatives in the Dresdner Bank.

From 1993 to 1994 he did his community service at the Workers' Welfare in Hamburg and started in the winter semester of 1994 to study economics at the Hamburg University for Economics and Politics ( HWP), which he finished in 1997 with a degree in economics. In 1998, he appeared as a special assistant and press officer of the Hamburg Bausenators Eugen Wagner ( SPD) in the Hamburger Building Authority a. After the change of government in Hamburg in 2001 he was a research assistant in the Office of Transport and Road Research, in 2004 the line of the subject area " transport issues at the federal level ."

In May 2010 he lost as the SPD's candidate for Mayor of Henstedt -Ulzburg against Torsten Thormälen (independent).

Since 2010, Christian Carstensen has worked as a research assistant in the investment management of the Ministry of Urban Development and Environment.

He is married and has two daughters.

Party

Carstensen is a member of the SPD since 1989. He first became involved with the Young Socialists, whose district chairman in Nord he was from 1994 to 1996. From 2000 to 2008, and since March 2012 has been and he is chairman of the SPD Long Horn -South.

Member of Parliament

Christian Carstensen was a member from 2001 to 2005 the District Assembly of Hamburg -Nord. He was also a member of the Aircraft Noise Abatement Commission at Hamburg Airport.

In 2005 he moved with 43.3 % of the primary vote as a directly elected representative of the constituency Hamburg-Nord in the Bundestag.

As a member of the German Bundestag, he was a member of the Committee on Transport, Building and Urban Affairs and substitute member of the Committee on Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. Christian Carstensen was air transport spokesman and chairman of the National Group of Hamburg in the SPD parliamentary group.

In the federal election on September 27, 2009 Carstensen lost his direct mandate to Dirk Fischer of the CDU. His country list position 6 was not enough for a seat in parliament.

In December 2012, Carstensen was again drawn to the SPD parliamentary candidate in the constituency Hamburg -Nord. His competitors were ex - Verdi - Regional manager Wolfgang Rose, who withdrew his candidacy in November 2012, and SPD Regional Vice Inca Damerau.

Volunteering

Christian Carstensen has long been an active volunteer in different areas in Hamburg. From 1994 to 1997 he was a member of the board of the Youth Office of Workers' Welfare in Hamburg. In Long Horner citizens and Folk Society, he was first deputy chairman (2001 - 2004) and then first chairman (2004 - 2007).
