Christian Frederik von Schalburg

Christian Frederik of scarf Castle ( born April 15, 1906 in Zmeinogorsk, Siberia, † June 2, 1942 at Demyansk ) was the leader of the Danish volunteers in the Waffen- SS.

Life

From scarf Castle was born in Siberia on April 15, 1906 as the son of a Danish father and a Russian mother. His mother was a member of the Russian nobility, his sister Vera scarf from castle. Until the October Revolution of 1917 the family lived in Russia.

From Schalburg officer was ( Sekondløjtnant / Lieutenant ) in the Danish Life Guards regiment. Politically, he was active in the youth movement and the Danish National Socialists ( DNSAP ).

From scarf castle fell on June 2, 1942 when he stepped on a mine and was later also hit by shrapnel. He was buried in Biakowo at Demyansk. SS - Reichsführer Heinrich Himmler promoted him posthumously on June 3, 1942 (effective June 1, 1942 ) to Lieutenant Colonel.

A Danish SS unit, the scarf Castle Corps, was named after him.
