Christian Friedrich Lessing

Christian Friedrich Lessing ( born August 10, 1809 in United - Wartenberg in cats Mountains, Lower Silesia, † March 13, 1862 in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia ) was a German physician and botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Less. ".

Life

He was a great-nephew of the famous poet Gotthold Ephraim Lessing ( 1729-1781 ). In his 1832 published work " Synopsis generum Compositarum ... " he focused on the family of plants of the daisy family (Asteraceae, formerly called Compositae). The plant genus Lessingia Cham. from the sunflower family is named after him.

He made research trips through Lapland and Siberia. In 1862 he died as a town doctor in Krasnoyarsk.

His brother Carl Friedrich Lessing (1808-1880) was a painter.
