Christian Haass

Christian Haass ( born December 19, 1960 in Mannheim ) is a German biochemist with a focus on metabolic biochemistry and neuroscience.

Professional work

Haass studied from 1981 to 1985 in Heidelberg biology. From 1990, he worked as a postdoc in the lab of Dennis Selkoe at Harvard Medical School and was there from 1993 to 1995 worked as an assistant professor. Then he returned to Germany and was initially C3 professor of molecular biology at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Heidelberg. In 1999 he received an appointment at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich, succeeding Mr. Klingenberg; there teaches and researches Haass as C4 - Professor at the Adolf - Butenandt - Institute of Medicine. The focus of his research laboratories are located in the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms of Alzheimer 's disease and Parkinson 's disease. With the establishment of a funded by the German Research Foundation aquarium plant, the molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases with the help of the model animal zebrafish are investigated. Further, research on the basis of a transgenic mouse model in Parkinson's disease. Haass has won with his research findings that are the basis for realistic therapeutic approaches in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Haass is a member of various scientific organizations; among other things, he is an elected member of the European Molecular Biology Organization and a board member at the Hans and Ilse Breuer Foundation. As the site represents spokesman Prof. Haass, the German Centre for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) in Munich. In 2003 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina.
