Christian Ruud

Christian Ruud ( born August 24, 1972 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian former tennis player.

Life

Ruud was a professional tennis player in 1991 after he was first attempted the age of sixteen for Norway in the Davis Cup. First, he played on the ATP Satellite Tour to win first world ranking points. The majority of his career, he played in the ATP Challenger Tour. Throughout his career, he was able to win twelve individual titles and one doubles title. His best result on the ATP World Tour was the finals at the Swedish Open in 1995 when he defeated Fernando Meligeni. In the same year he reached position 39 in the individual as well as position 264 in double its highest quotation in the tennis world rankings.

His best individual result at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the second round of the Australian Open in 1997. After victories about Jan Siemerink, Leander Paes and Neville Godwin he finally defeated Goran Ivanisevic in five sets. In doubles, he was never able to qualify for a grand slam tournament.

Ruud played between 1989 and 2000 39 single and 15 double appearances for the Norwegian Davis Cup team. His single balance was 24:15 in the individual as well as 7:8 in a double, which he is the most successful Norwegian Davis Cup player today. He joined at the Summer Olympic Games in 1992, 1996 and 2000 for Norway in singles, he also played in 1992 in doubles. His best result was the participation in the third round in 1996 after victories over Alejandro Hernandez and Marcos Ondruska.
