Christian " Bobo " Vieri (born 12 July 1973 in Bologna ) is a retired Italian footballer. He counted from 1997 to 2003 with 113 goals in 140 league games ( an average of 0.8 goals per game ) to the best center forwards in the world. He benefited particularly from its physical assertiveness, his positional play and his eye for goal. He was often curbed by its strong susceptibility to injury.

Career

In the club

After Vieri had emigrated in the 1970s with his parents to Australia, he began in the youth of the Marconi Stallions from Sydney to play soccer. There his father Roberto Vieri had already been active as a professional. After Christian Vieri had attended Prairiewood High School in western Sydney, he returned in the late 1980s to Italy and signed a contract with Torino Calcio. After one season at AC Prato he played from 1990 to 1992 again for the Turin, did not come in the two finals of the UEFA Cup in 1991/92 against Ajax Amsterdam, however, are used. In 1997 he won the Italian championship with Juventus. In the same year he lost the club the final of the UEFA Champions League against Borussia Dortmund.

Although Vieri played only one season at Atletico Madrid, he is one of the legends of the club. Prior to the 1997/98 season, he spent the equivalent of 15 million euros from Juve. He scored a sensational 24 goals in 24 games this season. This record-breaking strike rate of a goal per game, he was División during his year at Atletico Madrid top scorer in the Primera and was able to repeat this success later in the Italian Serie A 2002/ 03 with 24 goals in 23 games.

His greatest success as a club players were winning the last time aligned Europe Cup Winners' Cup with Lazio in 1999 and the same year of winning the European Super Cup. Thereafter, he joined Inter Milan, which paid a then-record - release of the equivalent of 45 million euros for him.

In July 2005, Christian Vieri moved free transfer to city rivals AC Milan. After only half a season, he was loaned out to AS Monaco, and joined the 2006/07 season back home to Sampdoria. He remained there for only a month and moved in August 2006 finally to Serie A newcomer Atalanta Bergamo, where he had already played in 1995/96. In July 2007, Vieri signed a one-year contract with ACF Florence, where he was to replace the migrated Luca Toni, but even there he could not build on the strong performance of its heyday. In the 2007 /08 season he scored six goals in 26 games and often acted only as a substitute.

In June 2008, Vieri signed a contract with Atalanta Bergamo. There, however, he was repeatedly booed by their own fans who Vieri resented that he had left after his comeback at Atalanta two years ago ACF Florence.

In October 2009, Vieri announced end of his career.

In the National Team

Vieri played from 1997 to 2005 49 times for the Italian national football team, where he scored 23 goals. He would have been eligible to play for the Australian national team, in which his brother Massimiliano plays.

Vieri came in 2004 in a European Championship and 1998 and 2002, each of a World Cup. In the two world championships he could despite his goals ( five and four in nine games) the resignation of Italy not prevent it. The FIFA World Cup 2006 he was denied due to a serious knee injury.
