Christiana of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg

Christiana of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg ( born September 22, 1634 Copenhagen, † May 20 1701 in the castle Delitzsch), often also called Christiane, was by marriage to Christian I of Saxe- Merseburg from 1650 Duchess of Saxe- Merseburg.

Life

Christiana was the fourth daughter, and thus as the ninth of 15 children, of Duke Philip of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg from his marriage to Sophie Hedwig of Saxe- Lauenburg at Copenhagen to the world. Training and education they received at the widowed and childless Crown Princess of Denmark and Norway, Magdalene Sibylle of Saxony, to whose widow seat Nyköpingshus.

At the age of 16 years she married on November 19, 1650 as part of a double wedding in Dresden Castle Christian I of Saxe- Merseburg, the third son of the Elector Johann Georg I of Saxony and his second wife Magdalene Sibylle of Prussia. After the death of her husband to Christiana moved back to her jointure in Delitzsch, which she had received in 1688 in exchange for the castle Sangerhausen as jointure. The Delitzsch Castle had previously been transformed by remodeling the widow residence, but at the time they feed on May 31, 1692 works were not fully completed. So let Christiana create the baroque garden next to the castle after its catchment.
