Christmas Island Buschkauz ( Ninox natalis )

The Christmas Island Buschkauz ( Ninox natalis ) is a species of the genus of Buschkäuze. It is found only on the remote Australian Christmas Island. Its plumage has a reddish-brown color, the chest is white. The animal is of small stature (26 to 29 cm ) and weighs 160 to 200 g over breeding behavior, very little is known, but it is believed that the Christmas Island Buschkauz breeds in all parts of the island in hollow trees. The young fledge about 68 to 77 days after hatching, and thereafter, for another two and a half months from the parents dependent. Like many other owls is also the Christmas Island Buschkauz nocturnal and hunts insects, and sometimes reptiles and even small birds and rats. He has a strong territorial instinct and defends its territory, along with his partner. This is done by loud cries.

The Christmas Island Buschkauz is considered endangered (less than 1000 individuals living on the island ), and it is believed that his stock has fallen by a quarter since the colonization of the Christmas Islands. However, he now lives in sheltered Christmas Island National Park. However, to ensure a comprehensive protection for this type, needs to be explored about the life and the imminent threat of extinction of these owls more first.
