Christophe Agou

Christophe Agou (born 14 October 1969 in Montbrison ) is a French photographer.

Biography

Since the 1990s, Christophe Agou published his sensitive and poetic documentary photographs. With effortless ease, he alternates between black and white and color, landscape and portrait, reportage and documentation. Here, Agou sets to any particular style. Rather, he sets up the forms and spaces always out on his own point of view. Meanwhile Agou also has other media, such as the assemblage and the film opened up for himself, which he always stays true to its intuitive operation.

Christophe Agou was born in 1969 in the French Montbrison. His love for photography was discovered by self-taught on various trips through Europe and the United States. In 1992 he settled in New York. In 1998 he began his work on the series of photos about people in the New York subway, the results under the title Life Below ( Quantuck Lane / WW Norton & Co. 2004) were published in 1998.

In the winter of 2002 Agou returned to his home region, the Forez, back and toured the regions far away from the cities that had always been familiar to him. He learned the people in the country know and evolved from his regular visits friendships. He began his photo series Face au Silence ( Faces of Silence).

In 2006, he was among the finalists of the W. Eugene Smith Award in 2008 and a finalist for the Prix de la Photographie Paris Académie des Beaux -Arts. A year later he was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the Prix de la Critique Kodak Photographic space. Winners of the European Publishers Award for Photography 2010.

The work of Christophe Agou have been widely published and exhibited internationally, including the MoMA (New York), the Museum of Fine Arts ( Houston ), at the Jeu de Paume (Paris), the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró (Mallorca), on the photography festival Les Rencontres Internationales d' Arles (France), at the Smithsonian American Art Museum (Washington DC), on the Noorderlicht Festival (Netherlands) and on various photo festivals in China.
