Christopher of Baden-Durlach

Christopher of Baden -Durlach ( born October 9, 1684 in the Charles Castle in Durlach, † May 2, 1723 in Karlsruhe) was a prince and ( titular ) Margrave of Baden -Durlach.

Christopher was the son of Margrave Frederick VII to Durlach and Maria Augusta of Schleswig -Holstein - Gottorp (* February 6, 1649, † April 25, 1728 ), the daughter of Duke Friedrich III. of Holstein- Gottorp. He was the brother of the reigning from 1709 Margrave Karl Wilhelm

Marriage and issue

Christopher of Baden -Durlach married on December 4, 1711 Marie Christine Felizitas of Leiningen - Falkenburg - Dabo - Heidenheim (* December 30, 1692, † June 3, 1734 ), the daughter of Count Johann Karl August von Leiningen- Dabo and Countess Johanna Magdalene of Hanau- Lichtenberg. From this marriage the following children were born:

  • Karl August (* November 14, 1712, † September 30, 1786 ), later Regent of Baden-Durlach ( tutelary government ( Karl Friedrich) ); married Juliane Schmid (later Baroness von Ehrenberg )
  • Karl Wilhelm Eugen (* November 3, 1713, † May 9, 1783 ); embarked on a military career; 1743 he was with his brother, a member of the tutelary government ( Karl Friedrich) of Baden-Durlach
  • Christoph (* June 5, 1717, † December 18, 1789 ), married on November 28, 1779 Katharina Infernal Baroness von Frey Village (* June 26, 1745; † July 23, 1811 )

After the early death of Christopher married his widow in 1727 in second marriage Duke Johann Wilhelm of Saxe- Eisenach, who married a fourth wife.

Since two sons morganatic marriages were received and a son remained single, could not contribute to the preservation of the house of Baden -Durlach, as the disputes over the inheritance rights of the descendants of the Grand Duke Karl Friedrich of the morganatic marriage to Luise Karoline Geyer of Geyer mountain inserting this branch of the family.
