Chrysolopus

Chrysolopus spectabilis

Chrysolopus is a genus of weevils ( Curculionidae ) within the subfamily Aterpinae. The beetles are common in Southeast Asia and Australia.

Features

The species of the genus Chrysolopus characterized by short and powerful antennas, an elongated snout, oval and low standing compound eyes, an elongated and convex pronotum and elytra also elongated. The color varies from jet black to bright green.

System

The genus was erected by Ernst Friedrich Germar in 1817 and is recognized today. The genus name is derived from the ancient Greek words χρύσος and λόπις from and means " scaled gold green ". Germar was divided in this genus as the only way the weevil Chrysolopus spectabilis, which was previously known under the name Curculio spectabilis. In the following decade the genus were assigned to eleven other species:
