History

The origin of the tradition of the game between the two universities dates back to the year 1934. Graduates of Suan - Kulab - Wittayalai School, which at the time were students of Thammasat and Chulalongkorn University, then came up with this football game as a competitive comparison between these two universities. As an example, among others, the traditional boat race of the two British universities of Oxford and Cambridge, or even the Japanese Keio - Waseda baseball game served.

The first game took place on the Sanam Luang on December 4, 1934. Thammasat University was the first host. The entrance fee at that time was 1 baht. The revenues of the Anti- Tuberculosis Society of Thailand were donated. Even today, the revenue charities benefit. Both universities take turns as host of the game. From 1935-1937, the game was played on the football field of Suankularb - Wittayalai school. Since 1938 the game in Suphachalasai Stadium takes place. The exceptions were 1985, 1986, 1988 and 2008. During these years the game was held in the Chulalongkorn University Stadium.

Since 1949 there is also a trophy for the winner. He called Royal Cup ( German: Royal Cup ).

Due to various political events, the game could not be played in some years. In 2008, the game was postponed by four months due to the death of Princess Galyani Vadhana, the sister of the king.

The last match took place on 31 January 2009 which won the Thammasat 2-0. Thammasat has 22 wins from their previous 65 encounters, most games won.
