Chung Mong-joon

Chung Mong- joon ( born October 17, 1951 in Busan) is South Korean politician, an internationally known football official and the most South Koreans.

Life

Chung Mong- joon was born the sixth son of the Hyundai founder Chung Ju -yung. Until 1988, he worked at Hyundai in senior leadership and increased afterwards in the South Korean politics. Since 1998, he sits for Saenuri party in the National Assembly. 2002 he was a presidential candidate, but renounced in favor of the later to become President Roh Moo -hyun on his candidacy. During the Football World Cup 2002 in Japan and South Korea, he was president of the South Korean Football Association.

For a member of the FIFA Executive Committee, he was elected by the Asian Football Confederation ( AFC) for the first time in 1994. He belonged to the FIFA Executive Committee in office at a FIFA vice- president until 2011. At AFC Congress 2011 he lost his seat in a fight election against the Jordanian Prince Ali bin al - Hussein.
