Church of the Holy Trinity, Stratford-upon-Avon

The Anglican Holy Trinity Church ( German: Holy Trinity Church) in Stratford- upon- Avon is famous as baptism and church grave of William Shakespeare and is therefore visited annually by thousands of tourists. It is located a few hundred meters outside the city center, right on the river Avon, surrounded by a small cemetery.

The church is open for visitors. For this they must enter the building through an extremely low front door of just 1.60 meters in height. Filming and photography are prohibited in the church.

History

A first church on this site is mentioned in the year 845. The present building of limestone dates from 1210 and was built on the site of a Saxon monastery. The church is the oldest building in Stratford.

Equipment

In the church there are some historical items of equipment, including 26 chairs from the 15th century in the choir room, with religious, mythological and secular carvings.

Also of importance are the windows to the east and the west side of the church, showing the most biblical and English saints.

Organ

The organ was built in 1962 by the organ builders Hill, Norman & Beard ( London) and in 1991 by the organ builder Nicholson & Co ( Worcester ) reorganized. The instrument has 50 stops on four manual and pedal works. The tracker action is electro- pneumatic.
