Chvalšiny

Chvalšiny ( German Kalsching ) is a municipality in Okres Český Krumlov in the Czech Republic.

Geography

Chvalšiny is located on Chvalšinský Potok ( Kalschingbach ) in the south of the Blanský. Neighboring towns are Borová and Brloh in the north, and Loučej Křemže in the northeast, Zlata Koruna the east, Vysny, Novosedly and Kájov the southeast, Boletic ( Poletitz ) Kladenské Rovné and Skláře in the south and Borová and Třebovice in the northwest. North-east rises the 1,084 meters high Kleť and to the southeast is available Křenov a botanical garden ( botanická zahrada ).

History

On the basis of the archaeological finds of a stronghold of the southern Poletitz is assumed that the area of Kalsching was settled in the 10th and 11th century by Slavic tribes. It belonged to the eastern cloister Golden Crown, and was first mentioned in records in 1281, when Margrave Otto of Brandenburg in his capacity as guardian of the not yet of legal age king Wenceslas II the possession of the monastery Kalsching confirmed. Already in 1293 it was declared a town. During the Hussite Wars succeeded Ulrich von Rosenberg, to acquire the gold Kroner monastic estates and to annex his reign Krumlov. During the reign of Wok von Rosenberg and Peter IV of Rosenberg, the late Gothic church of Virgin Mary 1487-1507 built, let their vaulting in the nave recognize the artistic influence of the Bavarian- Swabian Bauhütte to Hans AC Berger and Wolfgang Wiesinger from Braunau. 1567 gave Wilhelm von Rosenberg Kalsching the beer brewing privilege. His successor, Peter Wok von Rosenberg, the last Rosenbergs in the male line, Kalsching gave extensive forested in 1600. After the reign Krumlov he had to sell because of insolvency two years later, Kalsching subordinate to 1622 the Bohemian chamber. This year, Emperor Ferdinand II Kalsching together with the rule Krumlov his Hofkammerpräsidenten Hans Ulrich von Eggenberg for his services in the Catholic League. During the reign of the Eggenberger Kalsching received privileges in 1641 for a weekly market and two annual fairs, in 1685 he added two more weekly markets.

After the extinction of the Eggenberger 1719 Kalsching fell to the Prince Schwarzenberg. During the reign of Josef Adam of Schwarzenberg was built the castle Rotenhof far from Kalsching 1756-1760, designed by Josef Fortini. It served since the mid-19th century as a summer residence of the Schwarzenberg.

After the abolition of patrimonial Kalsching formed a separate parish. From 1850, a district court was in Kalsching ( Judicial District Kalsching ), which existed until the end of World War II. From 1855 to 1868 was Kalsching seat of a district office whose official duties were then assigned to the district office in Cesky Krumlov. 1930, the population was 1,412 (of which 1340 German ). For the year 1991 1.002 inhabitants are occupied.

Attractions

  • The Late Gothic church was built from 1487 to 1507.
  • The medieval buildings of the town square was destroyed by several fires in the 17th and 19th centuries. Some buildings still contain late Gothic portals saddle.
  • The Museum of the Schwarzenberg navigational canal serves as a local history museum. It is located in the building in the town hall until 1848 and thereafter, the District Court stayed.
