The Cyane is a small river in Sicily. The Cianequelle ( Fonte Ciane ) and about 7 km southwest of the center of Syracuse.

The name comes from the Greek nymph Cyane Kyane that tried according to Greek mythology, to prevent the rape of Persephone by the god Hades, and because you did not succeed, of sadness dissolves in water ( Ovid, Metamorphoses, 5, 409 - 470).

Just before its mouth at the salt pans of Syracuse from the Ionian Sea Cyane flows together with the river Anapo. The riparian areas of the two rivers are the only places in Europe where even wild papyrus grow. They were found in 1984 along with the salt pans as Riserva naturale Fiume Ciane e Saline di Siracusa under protection.
