Cieszyn Silesian dialect

Teschen dialects ( Cz Těšínská nářečí ) are a dialect continuum on both sides of the Olsa in Cieszyn Silesia. Can they divide into three groups: Freistädter, Teschen and Jablunkov. Morphology

Syntax

  • Partially nichtkongruentes Possessivperfekt, such as my tam mieli nojynte takóm MALOM kučym ( we had there a small house rented )
  • Finite verb tends to be at the second position ( in the main clause ), other parts of the predicate at the end of the sentence, eg yoke Byl už DOWNO přijdzóny ( I had long since come )
  • End position of the finite verb in the subordinate clause, eg yoke myślała, že ón padńóny each ( I thought he had fallen ),
  • Pleonastisches pronoun in the ( context-bound ) subject, eg ón owčoř ńechćoł odynść ( the shepherd would not go away )
  • Formal subject of impersonal sentences, for example Ono to nima taki proste (it is not so easy),
  • Perfect intransitive verbs with PPP, eg Sõstra per už póńdzóno ( the sister is already gone ).

Vocabulary

  • Many similarities with the Lašsko dialects of Czech.
