Cigerxwîn

Cegerxwîn, whose real name Şehmus Hasan (Kurdish: Şêxmûs Hesen; * 1903 in Mardin, † October 22, 1984 Stockholm ) was a renowned Kurdish poet and writer of the 20th century.

He came in 1903 in the village of Hisar near Mardin world. In 1914 he and his family fled from the fighting of the First World War by amude in present-day Syria. Cegerxwîn - which as much as the blood of hearts meant - studied theology and in 1921 became minister.

In 1946 he moved to Qamishli and became politically active. In the same year he was appointed Chairman of the Civata Azadî Yekîtiya û Kurd. In 1948 he was elected a member of the Syrian Communist Party and 1954 for the candidates of the party for the Syrian Parliament. In 1957 he resigned from the party and founded the organization Azadi (Freedom), which was later merged with the Kurdish Democratic Party of Syria. In 1963 he was imprisoned in Damascus.

In 1969 he went to the Kurdish northern Iraq and took part in the uprising of Mustafa Barzani. In 1973 he went to Lebanon, where he had a collection of poems Kime Ez? ( Who am I? ) Issued. In 1976 he returned to Syria, only around 1979 to escape to Sweden. At that time he was already 76 years old. There he published other works. At the age of 81 years he died in Stockholm. His body was interred in Qamishli.
