CIGRÉ - International Council on Large Electric Systems

Cigré is the acronym for Conseil International des Grands Réseaux Électriques (French, about the International Panel for large electrical networks) and refers to an international organization for information exchange in the field of electric power transmission and supply.

Important exchange platform is each in even-numbered years in Paris held Cigré session. In odd-numbered years, the Cigré symposia are held at different locations.

However, the main activity of the Cigré is the work of the Study Committee ( Study Committee, Comité d' Etudes ). There are 16 committees, which in turn are each composed of several working groups ( Working Groups, Groupes de Travail ). The working groups deal with each relatively narrowly defined subject areas and to create publications, usually with Policy character.

The German legwork is coordinated in DAK Cigré. (see also DKE ). In Austria, the cooperation takes place within the framework of OVE.

It was founded in Paris in 1921. In 2003 there were about 5000 members from 80 countries. Germany is one of the largest co-designer with about 5%.
