Circular saw#Cordwood saws

A circular saw (also Brennholzwippsäge, tilting circular saw, Wippkreissägemaschine ) is a special circular saw for cutting firewood.

The perpendicular to the V- or U-shaped rocker arranged blade rotates in a protective device. On the right side there is a slot into which plunges the blade. The rocker is mounted in the lower region of the frame, and must be performed with a slight pressure against the saw blade. The guard of the blade opens and closes in parallel with the rocking motion. The pieces of wood or logs are placed on the left rocker, sawed off accordingly and fall down on the right.

Security

In order to prevent an independent persistence of the rocker on the saw blade, a spring pulls the rocker after releasing the operator to its original starting position. Newer saws usually have an electronic brake switch with zero voltage release.

In older jigsaws lacked the cover of the saw blade. The saw blade was freely accessible. Such jigsaws should inadvertently come because of the great danger to the free-running saw blade no longer be used or retrofitted with a protective device.

A further development of the circular saw is the Revolversäge or Trommelsäge, in which the pieces of wood are placed in a rotating drum with several compartments and a vertical or inclined shaft, slide down to a stop plate and then (like a sausage cutting machine with side stop ) automatically to a preset length be cut and out of the drum again and again to the cutting blade.

Drive

Most commonly, an electric motor is used as drive source. Under favorable Heimwerkerwippsägen with circular saw blade diameter of max. 500 mm is a 230 V motor used for semi- professional and professional use only 400 V three-phase motors are used which either drive the circular saw shaft or directly power the circular saw shaft through a V-belt. For use directly in the forest, there are models with PTO. Also Combination units with electric motor and gasoline-powered Zapfwellenatrieb and Rocker circular saws are available.
