Circus Flaminius

The Circus Flaminius was a race track in ancient Rome.

He was 221-220 BC built by Gaius Flaminius censor and named after him. He was on the Champ de Mars, near the Theatre of Marcellus, between the Tiber Island and the Capitoline Hill. He hosted the plebeian games ( ludi plebeii ). In such an emperor Augustus has had succumbed here 36 crocodiles. After the Circus had been destroyed in a fire, they built it up again, so half a year later held games. By the 4th century it was still in use. Here was also the main temple of Neptune. Today is the Circus nothing more to see, although there are traces of mold in the new construction.
