Cirrus SR20

The Cirrus SR20 is a single-engine light aircraft with piston engines of the U.S. aircraft manufacturer Cirrus Aircraft Corporation, Duluth (Minnesota). The four-seat low-wing aircraft is made of composite material.

History

Approved by the FAA in 1998 hundreds of models have been sold since the first delivery in 1999. One of the advantages of the SR20 is that it completely with digital avionics - is provided - a 10 -inch Primary Flight Display ( Avidyne FlightMax ) and a multi-function display. Two Garmin GNS430 provide GPS navigation, conventional radio navigation and radio communication. The SR20 is how the faster and more powerful engines SR22, equipped with the Cirrus Aircraft Parachute rescue system System ( CAPS), a large parachute that can be deployed in an emergency, to bring the entire aircraft safely to the ground.

On 1 June 2004, the SR20 got the certificate for import aircraft of the European Aviation Safety Agency ( EASA), the first model.

There are now a SR20 (as well as the SR22 ) in the third generation ( G3 SR20 ). In this more than 700 changes were made, including a completely new wing structure with carbon spar.

The French Air Force has ordered 13 machines for the education of their navigators to be operated by the company CATS. The machines are stationed in Salon- de -Provence.

The pattern has been used since the middle of 2011 at the 557th Flight Training Squadron ( 557th FTS) of the U.S. Air Force Academy as a beginner trainer aircraft under the designation T -53A. The SR20 solved there from the leased Diamond Aircraft T- 52A.

Incidents

  • On the afternoon of October 11, 2006, at 14:45 local time clock, bounced a SR20 of the New York Yankees player Cory Lidle against the 52-floor New York apartment building " Belaire ". Cory Lidle and his flight instructor were killed.
