Ciruelo Cabral

Gustavo Cabral ( born July 20, 1963 in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is an Argentine fantasy illustrator, painter, artist and author. Cabral is known under the stage name " Ciruelo " ( "Peach Tree "). He is specialized in paintings of dragons.

Life and work

Ciruelo Cabral was born in 1963 in Buenos Aires in Argentina. From birth, he suffers from color blindness. At the age of 13 he enrolled at the Instituto Fernando Fader, an art school, a. At 15, his first drawing was published in a school newspaper, he also designed a flyer for a teenage rock concert. At the age of 18, he started a career as an illustrator of a commercial art company. Shortly thereafter, he designed first comic book title pages. At age 21, he began working as a freelance illustrator. In 1987 he emigrated at the age of 24 from the Catalan Sitges near Barcelona, Spain, where he illustrated fantasy book - title pages and pages of the Spanish fantasy publishing Timun Mas.

Cabral continued to work on it in this genre for companies worldwide, including in Germany, England, Spain and the United States. He designed the covers of the Chronicles of the Shadow War, a trilogy sequel to the fantasy film Willow by Chris Claremont at Bantam -Verlag. He also painted music album covers, such as Steve Vai's The Seventh Song ( 2000) and book cover, among other things, for Playboy and the comic magazine Heavy Metal. For the collectible card game Magic: The Gathering he produced artwork. In 2006 he collaborated with Alejandro Jodorowsky on the fantasy comic book The Alchemical Egg.

His publications include books along with his drawings in the Paper Tiger -Verlag, such as: The Book of Dragons ( The Book of the Dragon, 1990), Ciruelo (1990 ), Luz, the Art of Ciruelo (1997) and Magia, the Ciruelo Sketchbook ( 2000). His works have been exhibited in the Paper Tiger Fantasy Art Gallery 2002.

Cabral used as colors mainly acrylic and oil paints. One of his painting techniques are " Petropicto "; a combination of engraving and stone airbrush painting.

He still lives today with his wife Daniela and they have two children Angelo and Lys in Sitges.
