Cisca Dresselhuys

Francisca " Cisca " Wilhelmina Dresselhuys (* April 21, 1943 in Leeuwarden ) is a Dutch journalist. She was from 1981 to 2008 chief editor of the monthly magazine feminist Opzij.

Life

Dresselhuys was born as the youngest of four children of a reformed pastor and a teacher, what should be its impact on their later sense of mission according to own statements. Later she reached her home again and interviewed as a co -author Pfarrer children for the book Het huis glazen, she even lost her father at the age of eleven years. Dresselhuys visited the Catholic Sint- Ursulalyceum in Roermond, where she was an exception due to their Reformed heritage. Because of a letter from her mother to the editorship of the then decided Protestant Trouw she first got in the Utrecht city desk of a job as a telex operator, when the opportunity arose to let them be there eventually trained as a journalist. In addition to a variety of reports about events that were otherwise covered by their male colleagues, she distinguished herself by their coverage of fashion shows, which she illustrated herself. In 1966 she finally moved to the Zentralredation based in Amsterdam. There they also provided contributions to the women's side " Trouw voor de vrouw ", which gradually, as the newspaper as a whole, received a more open character.

1974 Dresselhuys in addition to its position at Trouw employee of the ( initially radical feminist ) Journal Opzij. In Trouw she specialized mainly on interviews with people in distress, such as the unemployed, alcoholics, people with disabilities, transsexuals and others. Her first two books build on this work, she wrote this along with Michel Vermeer, the head of a telephone counseling service.

In 1981, Dresselhuys finally Opzij and became the first editor in chief. She interviewed since both leaders from business, politics and media as well as artists and resulted in this context, in June 1992, their " feminist yardstick" one. They placed a value from -10 to 10 for the degree to which these men were consistent with feminist ideals. 1997 Dresselhuys was offered the chief editor at Trouw to be suggested this, however - they would have been the first female editor of a national Dutch newspaper (that honor should be given only in 2006 Birgit Donker ). On 1 April 2008 she retired.
