CISV International

CISV International ( formerly Children's International Summer Villages English ) is a non-political, non-religious non-profit organization for international children's and youth meetings.

History

CISV was founded in 1951 by the American psychologist Doris Allen, 1952 was the first Village in Cincinnati, which was also a German delegation from Hamburg participated. Only four years later, the first German Village was held in Lütjensee near Hamburg. Since then, over 150,000 children and young people have participated in more than 4000 international channels. In the times of the Cold War CISV was one of the few youth organizations, the participants had from two blocks in their camps. 1979 Doris Allen was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Villages In addition, over the years more programs for youth and adults have been developed: The exchange program has been held since 1962, Summer Camps for 14 - 15-year since 1985 from the organized reunions of Camp children developed the Seminar Camp. . Youth Meeting and International People 's Project are the latest programs of the organization.

Objectives

CISV is committed to tolerance, intercultural communication, peace education and the reduction of prejudice. A special feature of CISV is to begin peace education among children at the age of eleven years. At this age they are still open for a unprejudiced encounter with peers from other cultures, but at the same time been able to solve for a limited period from the parental home. In addition to the respect for other cultures, beliefs and opinions builds CISV in its programs on personal responsibility and commitment, cooperation and teamwork, as well as an awareness of the social problems of our time.

Programs

CISV organizes programs for children, youth and adults at local, national and international level. Some of these programs are:

  • The Village for 11 -year-old
  • The Summer Camp, which has been called since the end of 2012 Step Up, for 14 - to 15 -year-old (staggered )
  • The Youth Meeting for 12/13- 14/15- 16-18 - and 19-year (staggered )
  • The seminar camp for 17 - to 18 -year-old
  • Interchanges ( exchange programs) for 12 - to 15 -year-old
  • International People 's Project for adults ( 19 )

Away from the international activities take place at local and national level also held:

  • Mosaic ( no age limit)
  • Junior Branch - Activities ( activities of the 15 - to 25 -year-olds )

Currently CISV is represented in 65 countries, every year take several thousand children and companion in the programs part. CISV is cooperating with various umbrella organizations, such as UNICEF. CISV International has consultative status with the Council of Europe and Euro operates operational relations with UNESCO.
